MONCTON – Codiac Transpo launches a new mobile service which will allow passengers in Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview to track buses in real time and get mobile alerts, among other things.

The services are currently available on the web as the mobile app format is under development and will be launched in the near future.

Chief Executive Officer Angela Allain said in a statement Monday that the “long-awaited service” is particularly useful at a time when schedules and routes are changed to accommodate Covid-19 restrictions.

With the new service, passengers can sign up to subscribe to specific routes. They can then receive alerts specific to this bus. They can also receive information about detours, weather cancellations or receive route-specific notifications.

Passengers can also plan their trip using a starting and ending point, and the time they want to leave or arrive at their destination, to visualize the most efficient route.

The bus tracking feature uses a route map and identifies the capacity and characteristics of the specific bus, including air conditioning and wheelchair accessibility.

At a bus stop, passengers can text the bus stop number to 506-306-2772 to find out when the next bus will arrive.

The software used for the new service was created in partnership with TripSpark Technologies, a transportation technology company with offices in Canada and the United States
