San Luis Obispo drivers can now pay for their parking at their fingertips using a mobile app.

Starting Friday, downtown visitors can pay for street parking by downloading and using SLO’s new HONK app, available both on Apple’s AppStore and the Google Play Store.

“Paying for street parking is now more convenient than ever,” said Gaven Hussey, SLO’s Director of Parking Programs. “Visitors to downtown San Luis Obispo can pay for their parking using a mobile app they may have already installed. If you don’t want to download an app, don’t worry. You can still pay for on-street parking through our pay kiosks located every block in downtown.

In the future, the city also plans to offer three other popular mobile apps for parking on downtown streets, including Park Smarter, ParkMobile and PayByPhone. Everything should be available soon, the city said, starting with Park Smarter as early as next week.

Street parking is mandatory Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., including statutory holidays.

Rates range from $ 1.25 per hour to $ 2 per hour depending on where motorists park.
