Indian Railways has introduced support for the Hindi language on its Reservationless Ticket System (UTS) mobile application. In the announcement, the Ministry of Railways said the new language feature introduced the 3Cs – cashless transactions, contactless ticketing, and customer convenience. The initiative is expected to make the ticket booking experience convenient for passengers who can now choose their preferred language.
The UTS mobile application was developed by the Indian Railways subsidiary Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). The app is available for iOS and Android users who can download it for free from their respective online app stores. According to Indian Railways, there are currently 1.47 crore registered users on the UTS platform.
The UTS mobile application offers the possibility to choose between paperless or paperless tickets when booking train tickets without reservation of any type. It can be used to book one-way tickets or seasonal passes with the option to reserve dock tickets.
The addition of the new language will help the app to cater to a larger user base who are fluent in Hindi. The UTS app offers a series of practical features and benefits, including:
Smooth ticket booking experience
Passengers can book a non-reservation ticket for their trip without needing to stand in the ticket reservation queue. This installation is like a virtue, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Passengers can opt for the paperless ticket option while booking the trip, which helps the railways on their paper to make the app an environmentally friendly option. In addition, the need to transport tickets securely during the trip is also eliminated, as passengers can show their tickets on the app to TTE during the screening.
Booking on the go
The UTS app offers the ability to book on the fly, which is very useful for passengers planning their last minute trip as they can now scan the QR code displayed at various points on the railway and book tickets. This facility is currently available at more than 1,600 stations on the national carrier’s network.
UTS facilitates a cashless booking experience on its app allowing users to make payments through mobile wallets, UPI, debit card, credit card and rail wallet.
