Federal Minister of Education Shafqat Mahmood inaugurated the National Language Processing Laboratory and mobile applications prepared by the National Language Promotion Department.
He also spoke at a seminar titled “Standardization of Urdu Orthography-Problems and Solutions”.
The Federal Secretary of the National Heritage and Culture Division, Dr. Arshad Mahmood, the Director General of the Organization, Dr. Rauf Parekh, the eminent poet and scholar Iftikhar Arif and the guest of honor, Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik, also spoke at the inaugural session while Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed delivered a virtual address. .
Dr. Rashid Hameed moderated the session.
Shafqat Mahmood said the establishment of a processing lab is an important step for the promotion and implementation of Urdu as only languages will be able to survive in today’s world that adopt the latest technologies.
The Federal Secretary, Dr. Arshad Mahmood also expressed satisfaction with the online availability of Urdu-English Dictionary and Urdu Legal Dictionary on mobile apps prepared by NLPD.inent scholars and linguists, Dr. Najeeb Jamal, Dr. Iqbal Fana, Aijaz rahi, Dr. Tehseen Firaqi, Hafiz Suhail Abbas and Dr. Najeeba Arif, Dr. Tanzeem Firdaus, Dr. Sofia Khushk, Dr. Fakhira Naureen and Dr. Rafi uddin Hashmi provided valuable input regarding the topic in discussion.
Various aspects of spelling in Urdu were also discussed in the second session after lunch.
