Union Energy Minister RK Singh has unveiled the Bharat eSmart (BeSMA) mobile application for prepaid smart meters which will allow consumers to recharge their account and check the balance amount almost in real time . The BeSMA mobile app was launched at the Planning and Monitoring Review (RPM) meeting with states and power utilities chaired by Singh on Friday, a statement from the Ministry of Energy said on Saturday. This mobile application aims to satisfy consumers by allowing them to control their electricity consumption in near real time, while helping them to use electricity according to their needs, by modifying their consumption behavior to achieve energy efficiency, as well as than by helping them reduce their bills, he said.

This application would be available free of charge to all distribution utilities once they apply to the Department of Energy, he said.
