Selangor-based contract tracing platform Selangkah today launched its new e-wallet feature at its mobile app to ios, Android, and Huawei devices. The cashless payment feature is among the many new additions to the app that have been announced earlier this year, including the recently introduced SelangkahID and SelangkahBiz.
According to the platform, the new addition – officially known as the Selangkah Wallet – aims to bridge the gap between Malaysian consumers and merchants through contactless and cashless payment methods. Both have grown in popularity thanks to the country’s recent digitization campaign, while also being seen as a safer transaction alternative for consumers in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As with most e-Wallets, payments through the new feature are made by scanning a QR code.
Selangkah Wallet is powered by the Green Packet Bhd subsidiary Kiple, a financial technology company that provides various services like QR payments, credit top ups, bill payments, etc. It should be noted that the company is also late SelangkahBiz, the other payment platform of the application which is mainly designed for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The Selangkah wallet update is now available to all app users starting today. To activate the new feature, users must first verify their contact details and provide a short video for facial recognition through the app. A quick tutorial for this process can be viewed via the embedded video below.
Currently, stores that support the new cashless payment feature include Hari-Hari, EconSave, Mydin, and KK Mart. The platform notes that this list is expected to expand further in the near future. In addition, Selangkah also boasts that its new e-wallet feature is the first health-focused payment platform in Malaysia, being the official payment gateway for Selangor’s. Selcare clinic and Selcare pharmacy services.
